What We do

Our practice strives to help clients successfully navigate the Indian legal system, situating local laws in the context of the global legal environment. Our team’s multi country expertise has supported clients for over 25 years in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas. We have advocates in various Indian cities and a network of lawyers in jurisdictions across the world who have a strong civil and criminal practice in both personal and commercial laws.

We are firmly committed to aligning the various aspects of legal practice. Our lawyers hone their expertise by approaching their subjects from various angles. This is why in addition to our regular advisory and litigation practice we work hard to ensure we are constantly researching and analysing our legal world. Our efforts translate into excellence in legal philosophy and policy.

While private international law principles are important when it comes to inter-company transactions, for the individual it is public international law that becomes significant. Our team has expertise in various aspects of international law, whether it is the conventions that govern the rights of children, the extradition protocols, data protection, commercial aspects such as shipping and maritime law and trafficking. We advise individuals, companies, courts, international organisations, state, and non-governmental organisations on the impact of these international laws and arrangements with regard to India and along with our advisors on south Asian laws.

We have comprehensive litigation and advisory expertise with regard to the court process, including trials and appeals processes. We have been successful in dealing with cases involving business crimes which include money laundering, fraud and forgery, bribery and other anti corruption, financial crimes, embezzlement, and related issues. As these investigations often involve questions of extradition and international law, we have a cross subject team on such matters so that we are able to effectively and successfully address civil and criminal issues in these proceedings as well as work with the investigating agencies to ensure resolution.

Our civil law and commercial practice is once again helped by our cross-jurisdictional experience. One of the most important aspects of our civil law practice is to bridge the expectations of clients in jurisdictions that have a purely civil or common law basis. Thus, the interpretation of Indian laws and the structuring of contracts as well as their successful defence in courts requires skill and ease in various aspects of drafting, negotiation and litigation. We have experts in both the fields of personal family laws, whether inheritance, custody and adoption, divorce and maintenance as well as commercial law and issues of breaches, intellectual property, misrepresentation, distributor issues, false representations and company law issues. The proper management and running of subsidiaries in India form a substantial part of our practice and our experts cover the range from due diligence, operational advice as well as litigation and civil defence. While we deal with all aspects of commercial law we also have a robust practice in sports and arts law, whether our clients pursue their interests in these fields for passion or money, we ensure they have the right advice at all times.

  • Compliance / due diligence
  • Internal investigations relating to misconduct and other related intra-company issues.

There have been some recent developments in corruption laws, which include the strengthening and amendments to the prevention of corruption and anti-money laundering law. We also advise enhancing transparency to comply with foreign contributions and their regulation. While corruption in the public sector has a regulatory framework, private sector corruption is addressed via a combination of existing laws and case precedents. Our team also deals with cross-border issues and corporate liability of companies.

Our List…

We are working hard to strengthen the rights of children in our jurisdiction. The present laws and conventions governing international and domestic custody, fostering and adoption arrangements do not adequately address the requirements of children today. Child labour and refugee children have specific challenges that require more concentrated effort to provide adequate safeguards. The rights of all children to family and security have to be recognized. Our team has been providing timely and accurate advice as well as raising awareness of these issues with governmental and other institutional agencies.

We advise on the speciality areas of non-compete, disclosure and confidentiality. Our experience with industrial and trade unions gives us a unique perspective in this field. We provide legal advice and representation in issues relating to:

  • The laws governing industrial disputes and relations
  • Employment Agreements
  • Confidentiality Agreements
  • Compliance with social security legislations
  • Anti-Sexual Harassment Laws (POSH)
  • Independent Contractor Agreements
  • Separation Agreements
  • Disputes related to arbitration agreements.
